Review: SKII Facial Treatment UV Protection

May 16, 2013
Questions:
If you have a budget limit and you can pick ONE AND ONLY ONE skincare product to buy, what will be your choice?
If you have no budget limit and you can pick ANY ONE BUT ONLY ONE skincare product to buy, what will be your choice?

My answer is the same: SKII Facial Treatment UV Protection (SPF25) PA++

I am sure you are not surprised that I've picked SKII, but, why not the famous Facial Treatment Essence? Why not the newly invented Stempower cream? Why not the all time life saver Facial Treatment Mask?

Because, this is really the BEST EVER skincare product I HAVE TO USE on a daily basis!

My mother-in-law who is at the age of 62, has pretty nice complexion for her age, and I attribute that to her habit of carrying umbrella everywhere she goes, at all times. So if you are not actively applying skincare products to prevent aging skin, at least, get a sunscreen as continued exposure to sun is the cause of wrinkling, premature aging, and in time, an almost leathery appearance of the skin.

There are so many sunscreen products in the market, how to pick the right one for daily usage? Usa a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher every day. For extended outdoor activity, use a water-resistant, broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher. And remember, reapply often for maximal protection!

I got hooked on SKII Facial Treatment UV Protection and finished countless bottles of it (the previous version in red bottle). I must say this new formula in silver bottle is even lighter and more hydrating! In fact I love it so much that I've stopped using most of my skincare products during the day and just apply this cream directly after washing my face. It doubles up as a great moisturizer. I feel 100% protected without the need of a tedious toner-moisturizer-sunblock routine on my lazy days. And it's the only sunscreen I've used so far that I can claim as "not greasy at all!". It is fragrance-free but has a very soothing scent that I really love a lot. It's not a big bottle but it lasted me for more than half a year with daily usage (okay I admit, I didn't reapply it).

In fact, there were a period of time I decided to go with some cheaper sunscreen products, and in fact they are pretty effective as I've never experienced any redness/tan/burnt on my skin. But, there's one big problem with such products - clogged pores! At least that's what happened to me, I felt like wearing a thick layer of shield and at the end of the day, my skin looked dull and dehydrated with enlarged pores. So yes, I only want SKII Facial Treatment UV Protection cream now, and I want more!

From Los Angeles: It's me again. Thanks for this post. I am currently looking for sunscreen products. I have tried so many brands already and I have the same feeling: "there's one big problem with such products - clogged pores! At least that's what happened to me, I felt like wearing a thick layer of shield and at the end of the day, my skin looked dull and dehydrated with enlarged pores.".

Now I have a lot of break out so I am using Shiseido acne products but I am thinking to switch to SKII after I read you blog! Perhaps I should try the SKII Facial Treatment UV Protection (SPF25) PA++ first ? :(

I am not sure if switching to SKII products is a good solution since you mentioned about he break out, to my best knowledge, SKII is not specialized in addressing acne problem and although I am not a big fan of MLM products, I've heard great reviews on Nuskin for acne skin and somehow I trust MLM companies for dealing with such skin problems rather than commercial brands. You might want to give that a try if you are not skeptical about those kind of brands. But yes if you do want to consider SKII, this sunscreen is definitely a very gentle UV cream for even sensitive skin..

From Los Angeles: Thanks for your advice. I hear about Nuskin. I currently use Obagi sunscreen but I think it is not gentle enough.. it is like lotion, so I do not like it much and I want to switch to another brand. Btw, I am not sure what you mean MLM? I try to guess but can not ... :)

oh right sorry MLM is multi level marketing company which do not do any advertising, and they do not sell their products at any store, instead they sell products through direct distributors.. many people are skeptical about such companies but those reputable ones like NUSKIN, AMWAY, HERBALIFE are pretty popular nowadays and many people just swear by their products... and I personally have friend with acne problem using NUSKIN products and they say the result is pretty good..

Do you use this around your eye area? :)

Mummy Chan said...

I do although I am pretty sure it's not recommended, it's just easier that way since eyes need sunscreen too, lol so I still apply it around eye area after putting on my eyecream. But it's definitely better if you have an eyecream with spf, try not to use face sunblock for your eyes, unless it specifies that it's meant for eyes too. =)

From Seattle: I can't find this product in US. Can you tell me where to buy it?

Mummy Chan said...

I am sorry to hear that you could not find it in US.. Yup I have the impression that it's not easy to find the full range of SKII products in US.. maybe you want to try the sunblock from Lancome instead. I personally do not encourage my friends to buy products that are not easy to get because it's just so hard to keep buying/using... I will write a post about Lancome sunblock, it's really good too... =)

I've got it only once and than came back to the cheaper product with higher UV protection... but I feel I'm just waisting the money, cause I'm buying one product after another and thay all land in a drawer because I don't like any of them after all...(ok, maybe Ducray, Melascreen is not that bad). The one from SK-II is best ever!
